On Febuary 14, 2008, Walter Booth (P.Eng.), chairman of the Timberland Group of Companies, announced a $2 million donation to the Faculty of Engineering at McMaster University, the institution that he acknowledges helped to set him on a path to global success. Overview
Created out of a demand for engineers to manage increasingly complex issues, the Walter G. Booth School of Engineering Practice and its Centres provide a new concept in engineering education. The school recognizes the need for life-long learning opportunities for engineers and scientists by providing a unique vehicle to enhance career horizons.
SEP is home to the:
- Xerox Centre for Engineering Entrepreneurship and Innovation (XCEEi),
- ArcelorMittal Dofasco Centre for Engineering and Public Policy (AMD-CEPP), and
- GMC Centre for Engineering Design (GMCED).
The centres provide a focus for interdisciplinary education and research initiatives through individual master's programs in their respective areas of engineering practice.
SEP partners with:
- Other faculties, particularly Business and Social Sciences,
- Academic institutions, both nationally and internationally,
- Government, and
- Industry
These partnerships advance interdisciplinary education and research in engineering practice by providing systematic mechanisms for technology transfer and dissemination of knowledge and research results.
